A bilateral knee replacement is a surgical procedure whereby both knees are replaced with an artificial joint. The procedure is recommended for people who are suffering from arthritis in one or both knee joints which limits their day to day activities. This procedure can restore normal function to the knee and eliminate the pain caused by arthritis.
After the procedure, it is recommended to start physical therapy a few hours after the surgery in order to restore normal knee movement. The physical therapy takes about 6-12 weeks. Most patients are fully recovered within 12 months, but it depends on the patient’s age, and overall health and wellbeing.
